50 carat Bloodshot Iolite Sunstone

This is a unique, natural, and often rare gemstone that combines violet-blue cordierite (iolite) with sparkling red, orange, or copper-colored hematite platelets, resulting in a shimmering "sunstone" effect.

It has a Color & Appearance of deep purple-blue with streaks of red/orange hematite. The red platelets create a sparkly, metallic, and, at times, glittering effect called aventurescence.

The name arises from the striking,, in some cases, red, eye-visible hematite platelet inclusions that resemble bloodshot streaks within the violet-blue stone. These inclusions can look fiery and, in some cases, catch the light to produce a bright, intense glitter.
