Sodalite is a member of the Sodalite family of minerals: it is a tectosilicate mineral, and has high levels of sodium content, for which it was named (Sodalite was the Ancient Greek word meaning "salt stone").
Another famous members of the Sodalite group of minerals is Lazurite (the main component of Lapis Lazuli, which also displays a stunning royal-blue hue.
